A/B comparison: change the price while keeping purchase conditions fixed
Assume you hold 10 shares bought at KRW 50,000, with fees, taxes and dividends all set to zero.
At a sale price of KRW 60,000, A shows a profit of KRW 100,000 and a return of +20%. Pin A and change the price to KRW 45,000 for B: a loss of KRW 50,000 and a return of −10%. The difference in profit/loss is KRW 150,000.
This comparison shows results at entered prices, not a forecast or a recommendation to sell. Unrealized profit/loss based on a current price is not locked in until sale. If you change shared conditions such as purchase price, quantity, fees, taxes or dividends, pin A again to compare on the same basis.
How profit/loss and return are calculated
Return is Profit/loss divided by invested capital. Enter fees, taxes and dividends for a closer estimate of realized results (optional, defaults to zero).
Realized profit/loss: use the actual selling price; Unrealized profit/loss: use the current price. The formula is the same.
Example
Buying 10 shares at KRW 50,000 and selling at KRW 60,000 (excluding fees and taxes):
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Invested capital | 50,000 × 10 = 500,000 |
| Proceeds | 60,000 × 10 = 600,000 |
| Profit/loss | +100,000 |
| Return | +20% |
Why results may differ from your broker
- Fees / taxes: Defaults are zero. Buying/selling fees and transaction taxes reduce realized returns. Rates vary by market, account and date; enter your own rates for an accurate estimate.
- Dividends: Enter total dividends received to add them to profit/loss for a total-return view. Dividend income tax is not applied.
- Exchange rates for overseas stocks: Returns in KRW depend on exchange rates at purchase and sale. This calculator uses entered prices and does not apply exchange rates.
- Capital gains tax: Capital gains tax, including for overseas stocks and major shareholders, is excluded and must be calculated separately.

Frequently asked questions
- How do realized and unrealized profit/loss differ?
- The formula is the same. Use the actual selling price for a completed sale, or the current price for unrealized profit/loss.
- Can I use this for US stocks and crypto?
- Yes. Price and quantity work the same for stocks, ETFs and crypto, including fractional quantities. Use one currency; exchange rates are not included.
- How is stock return calculated?
- The basic formula is return (%) = (selling price − purchase price) ÷ purchase price × 100. Entered fees and transaction tax are deducted; dividends are added to profit/loss. For multiple purchases, use an average purchase price (available from the Average cost calculator).
- Do fees and taxes affect the return?
- Yes. Buying/selling fees and transaction tax reduce the net return. Enter your own rates. Actual brokerage settlement and tax filing results may differ.
- Does this suggest a target price or when to sell?
- No. This tool calculates profit/loss and return from your inputs. It does not suggest target prices, selling times or quantities, or recommend trades.
